About Us

Neighbors Protecting Neighbors

Carr Community Fire Department was founded in 1948 by a group of Branch residents who believed every community deserved reliable, professional fire protection. What began as a volunteer bucket brigade has grown into one of the most respected fire departments in Van Buren County.

Today, our team of 50+ dedicated volunteers responds to every call with the same commitment that started this department — because in rural Michigan, help isn't just a phone call away, it's a lifeline. We train continuously, maintain modern equipment, and invest in the next generation of first responders through youth programs and partnerships with local schools.

Fire Safety Tips

Protect What Matters Most

Simple steps your family can take today to reduce fire risk and stay safe. Prevention is always easier than response.

01

Test Smoke Alarms Monthly

Press the test button on every smoke alarm in your home once a month. Replace batteries at least once a year, or when you hear the low-battery chirp.

02

Practice Your Escape Plan

Map two exits from every room. Practice crawling low under smoke. Pick a meeting spot outside and rehearse your family drill at least twice a year.

03

Keep Flammables Away

Store gasoline, solvents, and propane outside your home in approved containers. Never leave cooking unattended on the stovetop — it's the leading cause of kitchen fires.

04

Inspect Your Heating System

Have your furnace, fireplace, and wood stove inspected annually. Keep space heaters at least three feet from anything that can burn, especially curtains and bedding.

Get Involved

Stronger Together, Safer Together

Carr Community Fire Department is more than an emergency response team — we're a family. Our station is a gathering place where neighbors become friends, where kids learn about fire safety through hands-on demos, and where every volunteer shares one purpose: keeping Branch safe.

Whether you're interested in volunteering, attending a community fire drill, or simply stopping by for a station tour, there's a place for you here. We host open houses several times a year and welcome school groups, scout troops, and senior centers for guided visits.

  • Annual National Fire Prevention Week open house
  • Youth firefighter camp and career guidance
  • School and scout group station tours
  • Volunteer recruitment — all ages welcome
